 3000 Miles
This is the story of that youthful yearning that we’ve all had at one time or another to explore and see the world – in this case the west coast. In this song the explorer realizes too late and after traveling 3000 miles that what he was really looking for all the time was right there at home – how did Dorothy say it – “there’s no place like home….”
Lyrics of the song

 A Rebel and Rose

This is one of the first songs that I wrote that I finally felt was getting there. I have reworked this song over a period of several years to get the lyrics and melody to this point. It has received multiple honorable mentions and made the second evaluation cut in Nashville. The story typifies the classic Romeo and Juliet struggle between two hearts from opposite sides of the track that have fallen in love. The bottom-line is that you can’t choose who you love, your heart makes that decision for you.

 Can’t Cover Up Hillbilly

We were sitting around a bonfire one night, of course drinking a few beers reminiscing about our childhoods. And as the stories unfolded about big hair, pickup trucks, Trans Ams and tattoos – and how we all were in the burbs now with family vans and respectable jobs. I realized that you can grow up but you never can cover up your roots.
Lyrics of the song

 I Feel Forever

Young love, making a wish on a shooting star and feeling like it was forever is what this song is all about. And in this case it takes them to the alter where they vow forever.

I Learned What Love Was About

This song was inspired by my wife who told me the story about how she used to wait for her dad to come late at night from work and how they’d stay up and share the moments of their days.  This lead to the line – I learned what love was about in this house. Then struggling with the second verse curse, I began to think about the different connotations of house which lead to the church reference.  Following this to the ultimate house was the next logical step for me to arrive at the bridge for the song.

 Kaylee’s Song

This song comes from a life experienced with divorce. And it is something that every step parent has to deal with at some point. Although the stepparent never will replace the actual parent that love is a bond that will always be there no matter what.
This song also took a lot of time to tweak and really get to the core of what I was trying to say.
Lyrics of the song

 Let Em Run

There comes a time in everybody’s life when you must feel the freedom of letting someone or something go so that it can find its true home. This song is about just that feeling and how often times when you let something go you get the answer or answers that you need to move forward yourself.
Lyrics of the song

   One Tear

I wrote this thinking back about the time my heart was destroyed by someone insensitive and selfish and from that stand point that you can take my heart, you can break it, you can be indiscreet and mean, but you know there is one thing you just don’t deserve and that is a tear from my eye.
Lyrics of the song

 Raised on a Country Song

When I grew up we had a large stereo console in the living room. Every night, after my brother and I went to bed, our father would play records (45’s) of Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and Tammy Wynette. I literally grew up with these songs in my dreams every night. This song captures that time.
Lyrics of the song

 Someday

As in most of my writing, I have a tune in my head, but not lyric. It wasn’t until my wife told me the story about her parent’s reason to join us on a cruise that the chorus of this song came together. The reason, they had experienced a number of friends pass on and they had always wanted to go on a cruise someday…
The song came quickly after that and is a reminder that life is so short, don’t wait for someday. By the way—my first cruise, we set sail from Greece, was on my honeymoon at the urging of my wife. There are no somedays in her life or mine now either.

 The Wrong Side of Love

This is a humorous take on the aftermath of a love that went wrong. No this really didn’t happen to me – well at least not quite in this way.
Lyrics of the song

The Man In Me I Never Knew

To Come.
Lyrics of the song

 This Table

As I sat one day at the table in our kitchen I noticed all of the marks on the table. And I started to think about all the living that is shared, moments that are celebrated around this table and tables like it everywhere. This song captures some of those milestones and how a piece of wood can hold such memories within its grain.
Lyrics of the song

 Til You

This song is about how love can open you to new things and that although we think sometimes we can control love it finds its own path. The second verse follows love as it now transcends into the birth of a child and how the parent feels loved by their child. And the last verse reflects the powerful love of our father and his ability to forgive us.
Lyrics of the song

 We Fall

Falling is something that happens to every one. It starts with those first few steps and then through out life as we are challenged with many things that can take is to the ground. The difference is in what you do next. This song was written as a testament to what can be accomplished by getting back up after you fall.
Lyrics of the song

 When to Leave

This song came from a line in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. One rainy Sunday afternoon, sitting on the coffee table, guitar in hand, watching this movie the line, “a lady knows when to leave” just stuck with me. This song emerged from that one line and describes self-discovery and the graceful passing of a parent.

  Where The Party Is

To Come
Lyrics of the song

 Words

I wrote this to simply demonstrate the power and impact that words can have on our lives in relationships and as a country. More importantly to illustrate just how much damage using the wrong words can inflict.
