They grew up dirt in their blood, with a bible in their hand
Hay in stacks, busting backs breaking this heartland
The price they got for last years crops won’t cover what they owe
They lost their loan when the bank foreclosed took everything they own

They passed it down through generations
They were proud to feed this nation
All the harvests they delivered
Now their dreams are being sold
To the highest bidder

Sweat and tears and an old John Deere planted all this land
That mail pouch barn in the middle of the farm was built with calloused hands
It’s where they prayed on drought like days for a single drop of rain
They’ll leave behind a for sale sign and take the family name

They passed it down through generations
They were proud to feed this nation
All the harvests they delivered
Now their dreams are being sold
To the highest bidder

No scarecrows or corn in rows no amber waves of grain
A way of life is gonna die of something doesn’t change

They passed it down through generations
They were proud to feed this nation
All the harvests they delivered
Now their dreams are being sold
To the highest bidder

They grew up dirt in their blood, with a bible in their hand
Hay in stacks, busting backs breaking this heartland
